Recent Music News 📰

🎶 1000 artists protest - Spotify

Over 1000 artists launched a silent protest album on Spotify, highlighting concerns over AI-generated music imitating real artists' voices. The album called “Is This What We Want” features 12 tracks drawing attention to ethical and legal challenges surrounding unauthorised AI voice cloning. With the rise of deepfake music, artists are demanding stricter regulations and better protection for their voices and creative work.

🎶 Deezer 10k tracks (more)

Deezer, a French music streaming service, has found that 10k+ AI generated tracks are uploaded onto their platform daily, accounting for approximately 10% of total music. They have built a now, patent pending, AI detection system to tag AI generated content setting a new industry standard for streaming platforms. It is worth noting that most of the daily delivery of AI tracks are unlikely to be streamed on Deezer, but still dilute catalogue and may be used for fraudulent activity.

🎶 Amazon and Suno (more)

Amazon has integrated the infamous AI music generator Suno, into Alexa+ to enhance voice-activated music generation. This move positions Amazon as a key player in AI-driven music experiences, allowing users to generate personalised tracks through simple voice commands. The partnership raises questions about the role of AI in home entertainment and how it could impact traditional streaming services. Amazon’s collaboration with Suno signals a growing industry trend where AI-generated music becomes seamlessly embedded in mainstream consumer experiences.

🎶 Sony Music Invests in AI-Powered Verification Tech (more)

Sony Music has led a $16 million investment into Vermillio, a company developing AI-powered digital authentication tools. Vermillio’s ‘TraceID’ protection and third-party attribution tool enables talent and IP holders to take advantage of the benefits of Gen AI with secure control of their data and AI rights. Major labels are moving to safeguard their IP and Sony’s investment highlights a shift toward using AI not just for creation but also for security and rights.
